there's another positive trend that a lot of people don't know about um nurses many nurses midcareer like in their 40s have decided to put their career on hold go to hygiene school and reemerge as a hygienist there's a a large group that's happening the first group just graduated this past May and there's a number of reasons for that you know one reason is that a lot of nursing involves crazy shift work you know at the hospitals uh well we don't have crazy hours in dentistry another
reason is a lot of nursing has pivoted to being more about paperwork than about taking care of patients and frankly very bluntly they can make more money as a hygienist than as than as a nurse so there are nurses now coming into the profession um that's we're not we're still in a shortage but it's getting better it's getting better by the day
