How to Get More Energy – 10 Simple Tricks to Feel Better and Increase Productivity During COVID-19 Dental Closures

Most of all dental practices are currently shut down due to COVID-19. Stress and anxieties are high – not knowing when life will return to normal and when doors can open again to patients. 

1. HOW TO GET ENERGY FAST BY REDUCING STRESS

We cannot STRESS this enough—reducing stress is SO important! High levels of stress left unchecked can lead to fatigue, irritability and lack of motivation. Take steps right now to reduce your stress level by implementing these quick and easy habits.

  • Take Deep Breaths – The first thing you need to do when you’re stressed is stop and take a deep breath. Close your eyes and inhale through your nose while you count to four. Exhale through your mouth slowly and repeat until you are feeling calm.
  • Plan Your Time – There is nothing more chaotic than having a bazillion things to do but no plan of action to get them done! Planning out your weeks and days can do SO MUCH to relieve stress. Trust us… this REALLY works.
  • Write Things Down – Take those thoughts and worries that are swimming about in your head and put them down on paper. It’s like physically offloading your burdens—you’ll be amazed how easy it is to let something go when you have written it down.
  • Diffuse Oil – As lame as this sounds it really works. Lavender oil can reduce stress and anxiety by producing a calming affect over your entire body instantaneously.
  • Learn to Say NO – If your plate is too full, learn to say no. It is okay to tell people you can’t do something. There really are only so many hours in a day and you only have so much brain space.

One of the biggest reasons we burn out and lose energy and motivation is overworking. You do not have to do all of the things, all of the time, for all of the people. Make it a point to let the least important things on your list go undone when you feel exhausted.

3. GET YOUR BODY MOVING

It’s been said there are two main reasons for low energy—moving too much or not moving enough! Don’t let the latter affect your life by sucking your energy dry.

Make it a point (schedule it in your day!) to get in at least 15 minutes of physical activity a day. If you can fit more – EVEN BETTER! Do this in the morning for an extra energy boost that will last all day long.

It may seem counterproductive, but the more you move, the more you want to move. It doesn’t have to be intense. In fact, you can get a great workout just fine from home. 

4. GET ENOUGH SLEEP

One of the most common reasons people search for ways to get more energy is a simple lack of sleep. We know, life gets busy and there are so many thing you have to do. Obligations are around every corner. Block at least 7-8 hours of sleep into your schedule and stick to it… even if it means other things don’t get done. If you get adequate rest, you’ll be able to breeze through your day with more energy and you’ll actually be more productive in less time.

5. EAT A HEALTHY DIET

Feeding your body what it really needs is so important when it comes to maintaining healthy energy levels. Your body needs real, whole foods with vitamins and minerals to function optimally. Ditch the fast food and the junk and focus on whole grains, protein, vegetables and fruit. Easy and healthy meals you can cook from home focus on while spending extra time at home. Shoot to eat at least two things that grew straight from the earth at each meal, and no – strawberry pop tarts don’t count – unfortunately!

6. AVOID SUGAR

Sugar, even in relatively small amounts, causes blood sugar to spike. This may feel good at first by giving you a quick burst of energy but it won’t last long. After the high always comes the long, draining crash. Avoid the crash by limiting or completely removing processed sugar from your diet. Instead, get your energy from real foods and complex carbs that won’t cause your blood sugar to spike. Your energy levels will thank you.

7. DRINK MORE WATER

We hear it all the time. It is much easier said than done. Sometimes we get caught up in our daily lists and activities and before you know it, half the day is gone and we haven’t drank much water. Being dehydrated causes you to feel fatigued because your heart literally has to pump harder just to make your body function. Keep a large refillable bottle with you at all times. If you forget, set an alarm on your phone a few times a day to give you encouraging reminders.

8. STEP OUTSIDE TO BOOST ENERGY

Sometimes all it takes to boost your energy on a lazy day is taking a step outside. Let the fresh air hit your face and soak up all the Vitamin D you can.
